A missing amenity is a gap in our data, not a missing dog park

We show an amenity only when the paid apartment feed we use lists it for that community. When a community is not on the list below, that feed gave us no amenity list for it. It does not mean the community turns dogs away, and it does not mean there is nowhere for your dog to go.

Use this page as a floor rather than a census. If the place you want is not here, ask us and we will call the office and get you a straight answer on breed, weight, fees and where the dog relieves itself.

What the feed lists

The amenities that matter to a dog

AmenityCommunities listing itWhy it matters
Fenced community12A perimeter, for a dog that bolts
Dog run13Somewhere off leash without a drive
Fenced yard13Direct access from the unit, at 6am
Pet wash8A tub that is not your bathtub

Counted from the amenity lists in the paid apartment feed we use. A community it shows no amenities for is not counted and is not ruled out.

The arithmetic

What the dog adds to the monthly number

A pet fee is usually charged once and not returned. A pet deposit is usually refundable against damage. Pet rent is monthly, charged per animal, and it is the one people forget when they compare two apartments. Twenty-five dollars a month for two dogs is six hundred dollars over a twelve month lease, which is larger than most of the rent differences renters agonize over.

Ask whether the fee and deposit are per animal or per household. The difference on two dogs is often two hundred dollars at signing, and it is almost never stated on the website.

Fair Housing

An assistance animal is not a pet

Under the federal Fair Housing Act, a renter with a disability can ask for a reasonable accommodation in a community's rules, and an assistance animal is the most common one. When the accommodation is granted, the community's pet rent, pet deposit, breed restrictions and weight limits do not apply.

Every pet figure on this page describes pets. If you need an accommodation, say so and we will raise it with the community during the search. Our Fair Housing statement sets out how to escalate if a community handles that badly.

Questions renters actually ask

Does this page list every community in Kyle that takes dogs?+

No, and it does not claim to. It lists the communities our paid apartment feed shows with a dog run, a pet wash or a fenced yard. Plenty of communities take dogs and have no amenity list in that feed, so a community missing from this page has not been ruled out. Ask us and we will call.

What does a dog actually cost on top of rent?+

Usually three separate charges: a one-time pet fee that you do not get back, a refundable pet deposit, and monthly pet rent per animal. Two hundred, two hundred and twenty-five a month is a common shape, which is roughly three hundred dollars over a twelve month lease on top of the fee.

What about breed and weight restrictions?+

Most communities publish a restricted breed list and a weight cap, and both are usually set by the property insurer rather than the leasing office, which is why asking for an exception rarely works. A handful state no breed restrictions or no weight limit outright, and those are worth knowing about if you have a large or a listed dog.

Is there anywhere in Kyle to take the dog that is not the apartment?+

Lake Kyle Park and Steeplechase Park both have open ground and trails, and Plum Creek has its own trail network through the neighborhood. A community with no dog run half a mile from a park is often a better answer than a community with a dog run and nothing around it.

My animal is a service or assistance animal. Do these rules apply?+

No. Under the Fair Housing Act an assistance animal is not a pet, so pet rent, pet deposits, breed limits and weight caps do not apply to one. You can request that accommodation from any community. Tell us and we will raise it during the search, before you apply and before you pay a fee.
